Riding the Rapids - Support for Parents + Carers

 

What is Riding the Rapids?

Riding the Rapids is a 10-week course for parents and carers of primary school-aged children who are:

  • Autistic

  • On the pathway for autism assessment

  • Living with significant learning disabilities or other complex needs

 

Riding the Rapids has been designed to help you:

  • Understand your child’s needs more deeply.

  • Learn practical tools to reduce stress and distress-related behaviours.

  • Build confidence in supporting your child’s wellbeing.

  • Share experiences and feel supported by others in similar situations.

The sessions are interactive, supportive, and practical, with a focus on strategies you can use straight away at home.

Do we need to live in Kirklees?

No, the course is open to families who can travel to Northorpe Hall in Mirfield for 10 weeks.

Can I bring someone with me?

Yes, we can offer 2 spaces per family - for anyone who has frequent contact with your child.
